Dead computer to new computer

Postby RichardInTN » Wed Nov 08, 2017 4:24 am

I am running Windows 10 on a new laptop.

I was running windows 10 on my old laptop.

Here's the issue: My old laptop died a horrific death, but the hard drive was unaffected. I bought an external hard drive kit to make it possible to access (and move) the files from my "old" hard drive, and have success with it on the simple files (images, and word processor files, for example). My problem is, I can't "Run" Incredimail from the external hard drive.

My question is this: How do I get all my e-mails and settings from the old drive, onto the new drive/computer, as well as get incredimail to work?

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance that you can provide!

In this case, to manually transfer the messages and contacts, please do the following:

1. In File Explorer, browse to the following location:
O:\Users\YOURUSER\AppData\Local\IM

Note: "O" refers to the old hard drive, and YOURUSER refers to your previous Windows user.

As the "AppData" folder may sometimes be hidden, for instructions on how to show hidden files and folders in Windows, please refer to the online article at:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... dden-files

2. Copy the "Identities" folder to your current Desktop.

3. Open IncrediMail, click on File > Import and Export > Import Messages.

4. In the pop-up window, select "IncrediMail" and click on Next.

5. Click "Select Folder" and browse to the "Identities" folder located on your Desktop. Click on Next.

6. Select the option "All Folders". Click on Next.

7. When complete, click on Finish.

8. In the main IncrediMail window, click on File > Import and Export > Import Contacts.

9. In the pop-up window, select "IncrediMail Address Book" and click on Next.

10. Click "Select Folder" and browse to the "Identities" folder located on your Desktop. Click on Next.

11. When complete, click on Finish.

Please let me know if you encounter any difficulties.

I think that got those two things... but... I still need to import my account information for my actual e-mail accounts (I'm fairly certain that I don't have access to the recovery options for a few of my accounts, at their websites), so that I am able to get new e-mail. How do I do that?

ETA: Incredimail is still asking me to set up accounts from scratch and shows me as having no accounts set up.

Currently, it is only possible to import the messages and contacts, not the other settings.

You will therefore need to reconfigure those email accounts in the new installation.
