moving email

I am no longer able to move any email from any folder into my inbox. I have tried clicking the right mouse button and selecting move to folder---doesn't work. I have tried highlighting the email and dragging it to the inbox....doesn't work.
The only way I can get mail back into my inbox is by forwarding the email to myself.
Any suggestions?

In this case, please select the message and then drag it with your mouse back to the Inbox.

If that doesn't work, try dragging the message to a temporary folder (one to which you can move the message), and then drag it from there back to your Inbox.
