IM backup under Win7/64

Postby doclouis » Thu May 24, 2012 8:31 pm

Your IncrediMail Version: Build 6295203
Your Internet Browser Type: FireFox 3.5
Your Operation System: Windows 7

What have you done before the problem occurred?
downloaded and installed IM backup for the first time at my Win7/64 system using the compability mode for the setup file (otherwise no installation will be performed)

If you receive any error message, please quote it precisely:
no error message

Please provide a full description of the problem:
Hello,

maybe someone of you nows this isssue and perhaps a workaround:

I downloaded IM backup for the first time to my Win7/64 system by using the xp-compability mode. This is the only way, the installation will run.

Now, after having started IM backup, clicked "backup" and selected an identity, the window will switch to the one shown in my screenshot. At this stage it will rest: No progress for hours. I canceld the programme after having waited for 2 hours.

I tried also using IMbackup with XP-compability mode and as administrator. both didn't help either.

Hope, someone knows, what to do!

Lutz

We are aware of the problem you mention and are currently working on a solution.

In the meantime, you can perform a workaround as followed:

First, click here in order to download IncrediBackup installation file, and save it to your computer Desktop

Next, right-click on the file, and select 'Properties'.

Open the 'Compatibility' tab, and set the compatibility for 'Windows XP (Service Pack 3)'.

Confirm the changes by clicking 'OK', and run the installation.

Please let me know the results.

I hope I found a solution for you:

The problem the backup gets stuck depends on a entry in windows registry.

Please navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IncrediMail\Identities

How many identities can you see here?

Delete the entry of the identity that is not used by yourself. Compare this with the entry of user/appdata/local/IM/identities.

Restart your computer. And try the backup again. In my case it is working now.

Hello

the same thing has happened to me. My computer crashed. Fortunately (so I thought) I had made a backup with my default email account.

After having a lot of trouble re downloading my incredimail backup (had to do it this time in compatability mode) I have windows 7 64 bit.

Needless to say I am not impressed I have lost all my contacts, etc. etc. and most of all my folders. Now How do I get these back.

Any help would be appreciated I have contacted VIP support but they are backed up and have no idea when I will get a reply and in the meantime I would really like to get my backup restored.

Any help would be very appreciated. My latest version installed is 6395233 my email works fine but I really need my backup restored. I have tried this many times and it just works for about 2 hours then wants to reinstall my main identity (default) account over and over.

Thanks

Krafty

Hello all

I am giving you an update on my problem and I have resolved it and hoping it may help others who have a similar issue.

this is what I have done after many days of trying different things. I reinstalled my incredimail over the previous install. I then brought up my backup program (incrediBackup) by clicking on my desktop icon. I went and retrieved my backup I had made before all the problems. selected the file and restored it over my default identity (which was my backup) it went thru the process rather quickly then the next step seemed to take forever like almost 25 mins. re importing content then it finished finally I clicked ok and there it was finally all back again and running.

Hopefully this will help someone else as it was very frustrating but I did not want to give up and it paid off.

Good luck and hope this will help someone else.
